Where to buy/find garter snake?

I live in Buffalo Grove, a suburb of Chicago and I'm trying to get a Garter snake also known as a gardner snake. I have lived here for 5 years and haven't seen one snake so I think catching one here is out of the question. Dose anyone know any places to buy them or any places near me where I can catch them?
